Research week (the beginnings of)
Today in the studio we spent the majority of the day preparing sheets of paper for the trip to Twycross Zoo tomorrow. The general idea was to develop backgrounds that can be worked on tomorrow, that express the characteristics of animals.
It was quite a strange concept to get my head around - I couldn't help asking myself why sketches on plain paper wouldn't do for the zoo - but once I got stuck into it I ended up enjoying myself experimenting with the effects of paint.
We were also asked to make a name plate messing with the typography to express our personality. My one is to the right. The extended curved serifs indicate deep thought and reaching questions; the smooth forms of the letters suggest the precision in my drawing preferences; the rough cross-hatching show my mind zig-zagging one way then the other; and the scattered letters suggest I'm a bit all over the place. And there we have it!
