Another Monday

So, today everything in the studio was a little more crazy than normal.. (Who'd had thought that was possible, eh?)

We started off by doing a bit of monoprinting. Unfortunately, since the foundation studio doesn't have the facilities and long glass-covered tables like in the printing workshop, we had to make do with slippery fish (the plastic wallet kind) secured to our desks with masking tape. Turns out the surface of the rough plastic wasn't quite ideal for inking... but hey at least we had a go.

Life drawing was a bit different too! It was the first time I worked with paint on a life drawing, though most of it I did outside of the session. I spent 20 minutes doing the figure sketch, then another 20 painting the figure and re-sketching the outline. The remainder I did in the studio afterwards. To me the most important thing was to get the figure outline as accurate as possible rather than having a fully painted sheet by the end. Since I was only doing a line drawing, shading wouldn't help me out here.

It ended up turning out quite well I think. The style was based off poster artist David Lance Goines, who produces fine art work such as the one below.

I couldn't help feeling like I wanted to be in the 3D group just for today - looking out over the balcony we could see they were all making dens! (Well, we thought they were dens... what else would large draping sheets of fabric, newspaper and tape be??) One of them was actually an enormous cardboard caterpillar with a moustache called Alberto.. or Alonso, I'm not sure. There was also various black film tape and string dangling in a spider-web mesh from all of the walls, making it a challenge to walk through without strangling yourself (that being said, there were plenty of 'mind your head' cardboard signs dangling from said strings).

In other news, on the right is a quick digital colour-over I did of one of my early life drawings to add to my contextual studies on Lucian Freud (yes, I know I started that ages ago, but it's finished now, okay?).

And, just for fun, above is Joey's dinner - she decided to give her smiley-face potatoes pea eyes.

Oh oh - also I finally managed to have a look around the Game Art Design floor today! All the work up there looks incredible... fingers crossed all will go to plan!
